The Cottage House is a fabulous site for finding new ideas and things to do with the leftovers of yesterday. They feature unique, redesigned, restyled items that they sell from their 2-storey premises in the States.

New Artist at the Elizabeth Gordon Gallery

The Elizabeth Gordon Gallery is proud to introduce a new artist: Gail van Lingen. Gail was born in Gauteng, educated in KZN, and studied art at WITS.

Gail is currently living in KZN, having made a name for herself in Johannesburg and Cape Town. She has exhibited in major galleries in SA, UK, and Australia.

Between 1987 - 91, Gail embarked on a project to paint the Battlefields of South Africa. The project immersed her in intensive historical research and set her traveling the length and breadth of the country, to archives and museums, and to camping on the battlefields themselves. Recognising the historical value of the paintings, Times Media Limited contracted her to buy the series of 20 works for their offices. Her works were later published in the book "Battlefields of South Africa".

Gail has continued to travel extensively and her most recent exhibition in 2011, "Cape to Cairo", held at the Castle in Cape Town, was the result of 5 years of meandering from the tip of the Cape through to the Nile in Egypt.

Gail's style is uniquely her own and is a wonderful fusion of impressionism and expressionism. Her use of paint with the palette knife is both thick and fluid, and captures light, shade, and reflection in broad strokes of colour.

Lynn McAdam opened her first antique shop at the age of 17, trawling the auction rooms and buying old and new furniture to stock her fledgling business. Years of buying trips around the world have honed Lynn’s intuitive eye for timeless quality and great design, as well as her innate passion for unique and beautiful pieces. A passion she shares with her husband Sibley.

It was through restoring antiques that Sibley McAdam learnt the techniques for building his own furniture – as well as re-styling and re-finishing existing pieces. A process of trial and error would lead to Sibley and his team developing their unique “antiquing” and painting techniques.

Together, Lynn and Sibley have created a look that is unmistakably Block & Chisel – classically inspired, lasting design pieces accented by unique, one-off treasures and an overall eclectic flair. The result is a softer, more comfortable look that is incredibly easy to live with.

New Stock is always a pain to organise, I wish I had a button that I could click and everything would be done including calling each client individually to inform them of our amazing arrivals.
As we grow we try to maintain the best communication which is not always what you receive, please note that when we leave you off it's not because you are not important, but rather that we are just inundated with desperate requests.

Steps are being taken to ensure that you feel important to us out of the Studio as you are in. My mission was to make everyone feel beautiful, not just the ones who purchase stock. Please also be aware that while we have new stock coming in all the time, we always have stock on hand so you can always buy as you are fitted. Please come visit to see our latest arrivals.

We have exciting new developments in the pipeline with an extension into Mastectomy bras and Prothesis. I am getting to visit all who can make this a successful venture.
