Situated along the N2 near Cape Town Airport, the Green Renaissance Highway Memorial reminds us of what we’ve lost… 312 Rhinos, killed by poachers during the first seven months of 2012.

Using reverse graffiti, members of the Green Renaissance, a film production and media agency dedicated to promoting environmental awareness, created a unique and evolving reminder of the plight of Rhinos. The Highway Memorial shows 312 crosses, one for each Rhino killed, scrubbed along the side of the N2 highway using steel wire scrubbing brushes and cut out stencils. This art form involves removes dust or dirt from the canvas and ensures that no paint is added to the environment.
